Gujarat Titans (GT) will collide with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 67th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 25.

The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans have been in excellent form, sitting at the top of the standings with nine wins in 13 games. On the contrary, Chennai Super Kings are at the bottom of the points table, having won just three out of 13 matches.

For Gujarat Titans, this match is crucial in their quest to secure a top-two finish. A victory against CSK would elevate them to 20 points, guaranteeing a top-two spot and the strategic advantage of playing in Qualifier 1, which offers a second chance to reach the final.  

GT's campaign has been bolstered by the consistent performances of their top-order batters, notably Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler, who have smashed over 1,800 runs collectively. However, with Buttler set to depart for national duties before the playoffs, the team will aim to capitalise on his presence to solidify their position.

In their last fixture, the Titans lost to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 33 runs as they failed in their attempt to chase 236 runs.

CSK, meanwhile, find themselves in uncharted territory, out of playoff contention before the final league game. A wooden spoon is all but confirmed for them.

This is a significant downturn for the franchise, which has historically been a strong contender in the title race. The team struggled with adapting to modern T20 strategies, and despite mid-season changes, including MS Dhoni's return as captain, they failed to find consistent form.  

With no playoff aspirations, CSK are likely to use this match to assess and provide opportunities to emerging talents such as Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel and Dewald Brevis.

Yet, writing off CSK is never wise. Even with no playoffs to play for, pride and legacy remain powerful motivators. The younger players will look at this match as an opportunity to make a case for next season. And with Dhoni’s future uncertain there is always an emotional undercurrent to CSK’s outings. Gujarat Titans might have more to gain, but they will be facing a team that has nothing to lose.
