Rajasthan Royals beat Punjab Kings by 50 runs in match 18 of IPL 2025. This was Punjab's first loss of the season after back to back wins in their first two games. An all-round performance from the Royals ensured that they won back to back games. Sanju Samson won his first game as captain for the Royals this season.
Chasing a mammoth 206 to win, Punjab Kings in their 20 overs scored 155/9 falling way short of the target. The big loss will dent their NRR very early in the season. Meanwhile, the NRR of the Royals will get a huge boost after this big win.
The struggles to win at home and especially in Mullanpur continued for the Kings as it was their fifth loss at this venue in their last six games. The Kings were well and truly short of the target after 20 overs as they lost the match by 50 runs.

Chasing 206 to win, Punjab Kings were rattled early on inside the first 10 overs. The Kings lost four wickets inside the first half of their chase losing the complete momentum. The PBKS batters failed to counter Jofra Archer's express pace. Priyansh Arya was dismissed for a first-ball duck. Shreyas Iyer ( 10 runs off 5 balls) was the next to go in the first over.

Marcus Stoinis (1 run off seven balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (17 runs off 16 balls) were also dismissed cheaply as PBKS lost four wickets inside the first seven overs.
From there on Nehal Wadhera (62 runs of 41 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (30 runs off 21 balls) had a stand of 88 runs. Wadhera was dismissed by Wanindu Hasaraga with the PBKS team score on 131. Maxwell also fell on the same score to Maheesh Theekshana with the Kings totteting at 131/6.
The Kings lost their last three wickets for just 24 runs as Jofra Archer returned to do the clean up job. He took three wickets giving away 25 runs. Sandeep Sharma and Maheesh Theekshana took two wickets each. Theekshana's Sri Lankan teammate Wanindu Hasaranga and Kumar Kartikeya took a wicket each.

In the end, it was a comprehensive win for the Royals by 50 runs that lifted them to the seventh position on the IPL 2025 points table. The Kings after suffering a massive loss dropped to the fourth position on the table. Earlier in the day, DC beat CSK by 25 runs at the Chepauk to get to six points from three games and are topping the table currently.
