On Tuesday, at a sun-soaked Eden Gardens, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 21 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). LSG finished their 20 overs at 238 runs for 3 wickets.
Winning the toss, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane opted to bowl. LSG sent out Aiden Markram (47 runs off 28 balls) and Mitchell Marsh (81 runs off 48 deliveries) to tackle a pitch ripe for runs.
KKR’s Vaibhav Arora opened with a stingy three-run over, met by cautious probing from the LSG openers. Spencer Johnson, bowling the second over, opened the floodgates and saw Marsh unfurl gorgeous shots for a four and a six.

The Aussie again leaked runs in his next over as Markram exerted more pressure on him and bettered the exploits of his partner, hammering two fours and a six.
Harshit Rana, in the penultimate powerplay, received similar treatment as both Marsh and Markram tonked him for a six. Even Sunil Narine was not spared by Marsh, who accumulated two more boundaries, including a six.Â
At the 10-over mark, LSG’s score read 95/0.
At a crucial time, Rana provided KKR with a breakthrough in the form of Markram's wicket. The South African was outdone by a slower ball that cleaned him up.
Markram’s dismissal did not deter the Super Giants one bit. Marsh, who brought up his fifty with a four in 36 deliveries, accompanied by Nicholas Pooran (87 runs off 36 balls), kept their foot on the accelerator. After Marsh hit Johnson for a boundary in the 12th, Pooran followed suit and smashed two back-to-back fours to end the over.

The onslaught showed no signs of stopping. Marsh hammered Vaibhav for a six and a four in the 13th over. After Pooran took the attack to Varun Chakaravarthy and welcomed him with a maximum in the 14th over, the West Indian continued to deal in boundaries, hammering two sixes in the 15th over off Narine.
Andre Russell broke the 71-run partnership in the 16th over, sending Marsh packing. Abdul Samad (6 runs off 4 balls) joined Pooran at the crease.
Pooran raced to his fifty in 21 balls. Starting the 17th over with a six, the southpaw followed up with a four to bring up the milestone. He attained 24 runs in the 18th over off Russell, hammering two fours and as many sixes.
Samad perished after scoring a boundary in the 19th over bowled by Rana, who, despite going for runs, claimed his second wicket in the match.
Vaibhav kept things tight after conceding a boundary as 11 runs came off the final over of the innings. LSG ended at 238/3 with Pooran staying unbeaten at 87 runs.
