Mumbai Indians (MI) won the 29th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) against Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 13.
Delhi Capitals began their pursuit of 206 runs with a jolt, losing opener Jake Fraser-McGurk (0 run off 1 ball) off the very first ball of the innings. Deepak Chahar struck gold with a length delivery that swung away as Fraser-McGurk handed an easy catch to the fielder at cover.
The early dismissal brought Karun Nair (89 runs off 40 balls) to the crease, joining Abhishek Porel (33 runs off 25 balls), as DC looked to stabilize.
Nair, making a notable comeback to the IPL after three years, took the attack to MI’s bowlers, particularly targeting the powerplay overs. Alongside Porel, he forged a rapid partnership, with Nair unleashing a flurry of boundaries.

By the end of the sixth over, DC had raced to 72/1 with Nair reaching a scintillating half-century off just 22 balls, his first in IPL after seven years, including a ferocious 18-run assault on Jasprit Bumrah in his second over.
Porel played the supporting role, contributing a steady 33 off 25 balls before falling to Karn Sharma, who had him caught at deep square-leg after a slog sweep went awry.
Mitchell Santner broke the back of DC’s momentum by dismissing Nair for a well-made 89 runs off 40 balls. Santner’s arm-ball skidded through, shattering Nair’s stumps. His departure left DC at 135/3 in 11.4 overs, still ahead in the chase but needing a new catalyst.
The pressure mounted as Axar Patel, DC’s captain, attempted to counter-attack but fell to Bumrah’s guile in the 13th over
Karn continued to chip in with wickets, dismissing Tristan Stubbs (1 run off 4 balls) and KL Rahul (15 runs off 13 balls).

DC needed 39 runs off three overs to win. Vipraj Nigam (14 runs off 8 balls) struck a six and a four off Santner to swing the game back in DC's favour. However, the left-arm spinner was clever enough to deceive Vipraj, who stepped outside the crease on a wide delivery only to get stumped.
Bumrah bowled the penultimate over. Ashutosh Sharma (17 runs off 14 balls) hammered him for two consecutive boundaries. He wanted to retain strike and charged for a two on the fourth ball of the over but got run-out in the process. Two more run-outs in the same over ended Delhi Capitals' innings at 193 runs as Mumbai Indians won the match by 12 runs.
After losing their first match of the season, DC dropped to second place on the IPL 2025 points table. On the other hand, MI climbed to seven position.
