Rohit has been among the most successful India captains to lead the team till date. There are expectations that he will lead the team in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Hardik Pandya Is My White-Ball Captain - Kapil Dev

Speaking to Khel Now at an event in Noida, former Indian skipper Kapil Dev picked the player that he wants to see become India's next white-ball skipper. He picked Hardik Pandya to become India's next white-ball skipper.

"To me, Hardik Pandya is my white ball captain. There are many contenders for the post but Pandya is my choice. Pandya is relatively young and can build a team around him for the next ICC events," Kapil said to Khel Now at an event.

Hardik was India's T20I vice-captain when Rohit Sharma led India to their second T20 World Cup title in the Caribbean. However, after Gautam Gambhir became the head coach of the national team, he appointed Suryakumar Yadav as India's next T20I skipper post Rohit's retirement.

Kapil Dev also backed him to play Test cricket as well. Hardik has not been playing the format since the last four to five years since he had a major back injury in 2018.

"Ideally, Hardik should also play Test cricket and since he isn't playing, India will need multiple captain for three formats," Kapil further said.

Hardik's first captaincy stint in the IPL was with Gujarat Titans in 2022. He led the team to their maiden IPL title in their very first season. He then made a switch to Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2024 and replaced Rohit Sharma as the skipper. Mumbai finished 10th in IPL 2024 under Hardik's captaincy and is currently placed eighth in the IPL 2025 points table after three losses from the first four games.

Hardik's MI takes on Rajat Patidar's RCB on Monday, April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium.
