SKY recalls his Mumbai Indians debut

Mumbai Indians (MI) posted 184 runs for seven wickets after their 20 overs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their final league game in Jaipur on Monday, May 26. Punjab now needs 185 runs to win to seal a spot in the top two.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 57 runs off 39 deliveries to help MI get to that score. The next best score for Mumbai after SKY was Ryan Rickelton who scored 27 runs off 20 balls.

However, it was a well-worked and combined effort from all the MI batters that helped them get to that score.

In the first 10 overs of the match, MI lost wickets at regular intervals as the PBKS bowlers broke every partnership that was developing. However, with SKY coming into bat at number three, he summed up the pace of the pitch quickly and took the attack to the opposition. He saw the Punjab bowlers chip in with wickets at the other end.

Suryakumar Yadav added 46 runs with Hardik Pandya (26 runs off 15 balls) and 31 runs with Naman Dhir (20 runs off 12 balls) in the final five overs that proved to be decisive for the five-time champions.

MI were well set to get past 200 at the start of the final over. However, Arshdeep Singh first dismissed Naman in the first ball of the over and then dismissed SKY in the last delivery of the over to limit MI under 200.

For PBKS with the ball, Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen and Vijaykumar Vyshak picked up two wickets each. Vyshak was the expensive of the lot going for 44 runs off his four overs. In the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal, Harpreet Brar picked up the big wicket of Rohit Sharma.
